Kitty Harper is an award-winning filmmaker, playwright, screenwriter and composer from Birmingham. Her work is defined by moral complexity, psychological tension, and an unflinching willingness to explore the stories society prefers to leave in the dark.
A classically trained musician and writer with over a decade of experience, Kitty has worked as a script reader for the BBC Writersroom and national theatre initiatives. Her films have received international recognition — including Best LGBT Screenplay at the Chicago Script Awards and Best Thriller at Hollywood's Monthly Film Festival — and she has been shortlisted for the Steven Knight Make It In Birmingham Writing Competition.
Her most recent short, Ma Prison (2025), was officially selected and screened at the Birmingham Film Festival 2025.
Blood is her most personal and unflinching work to date.
Synopsis
When a troubled teenage boy seeks refuge from his abusive father, a well-meaning priest offers reassurance and moral guidance. Hours later, the father lies dead — and the boy's final look makes it clear he believed he had permission. Alone in his church, stained with blood, the priest must confront a devastating question: When does guidance become responsibility?

Director's Statement
"Blood is a personalised depiction of the descending lack of faith in humanity, how one decision can vastly impact another, spiralling into a calamity of uncontrolled chaos. This film explores the tragic architecture of a mistake. We often view morality as a series of clear choices, but this story ventures into the terrifying 'grey space', where empathy and duty can inadvertently lead to catastrophe.
The film focuses on the relationship between a Priest, a person whose life is defined by providing peace and sanctuary, and a troubled boy seeking refuge from his abusive father. I wanted to steer away from the traditional 'mentor' trope, the older figure guiding the youth toward the light. In this instance, there is no light, no hope or clear path, just a dark descent into sheer immorality. I'm fascinated by the idea of accidental complicity. How do we live with ourselves when our desire to help results in irreparable harm? Sometimes there is no answer — a clear signal of how corrupt this world can appear at times."
